I need a piano & a mulberry candle

// September 27th, 2002 // No Comments » // tagged: >

PostcardGot this hilarious postcard from Jeff in the mail today. Thanks! I'm a little worried about your t-shirt design choice too ..... you should post a picture of yourself wearing it :) It's been a super busy week for me - thus no blogging. I'm soooo looking forward to this weekend. I'm going to read Rob's newest chapter, go to Barnes & Noble and spend too much money, and spend some time looking at land with Steve. On Sunday we're having lunch with a big group of our friends -- at a restaurant that is on a BARGE in the river. That should be pretty cool -- they're supposed to have excellent food and great atmosphere. :fridayfive: Is it already Friday Five time again? 1. What are your favorite ways to relax and unwind? Playing the piano, reading a good book, taking a long hot bath 2. What do you do the moment you get home from work/school/errands? Change into comfy clothes, take off my shoes, smooch & hug Steve, and log on to my PC! 3. What are your favorite aromatherapeutic smells? I like Vanilla, Mulberry, RAIN 4. Do you feel more relaxed with a group of friends or hanging out by yourself? Usually by myself - just relaxing and not doing anything :) 5. What is something that you feel is relaxing but most people don't? Hmmm -- I don't know -- I'm sure there are people out there who wouldn't find playing the piano relaxing. But for me, it's escaping into the music -- and I totally relax. Since childhood, I have ALWAYS gone to the piano and played when I get angry, sad, stressed, etc. My parents were here last night and today -- my mom had a meeting up here and since Dad retired LAST WEEK - he decided to come up with her. Dad and I had breakfast together this morning -- and then I went to work for a few hours -- and then we met back up and had a coffee. It's strange that he's retired. He still seems young to me -- and the WORD retired just seems so old. It will be interesting to see how his retirement affects their life. Mom just doesn't want him to be sitting around at home not doing anything ---- you get OLD when you don't do anything, you know? My grandparents on my mom's side are like 84 and 85 --- and they look like they are about 65. They are VERY active and do sooooo much in the community, church, etc. I think that is the secret to a long and healthy life --- being INVOLVED in things and not staying home all the time, you know? Oky doky - I'm off to do a little work! Woohoo! Later :)

Stackable Jewelry! And How!

// August 22nd, 2002 // No Comments » // tagged:

I am in love with this jewelry. You can mix and match different rings -- they're stackable. I LOVE jewelry. Specifically, I love necklaces, rings and earrings. I have been REALLY good though and haven't bought a single piece of jewelry for almost a full year. Nothing. I think I've held off long enough though -- I ordered their catalog and want to visit one of the retailers here in Nashville. It's just so neat all the different combinations of rings that they have. On their website, they say they have one client that has over FIFTY of their rings. Wow. I just want three or four -- so I can mix and match. That's enough materialistic blogging for the day. Moving on! We received a bit of news about our house offer this afternoon. It turns out there are THREE offers on the house -- and they said they would have an answer by tomorrow morning at the latest. I'm going to be soooo disappointed if this offer doesn't get accepted. I was all hyped up and getting excited about this house -- so everybody cross your fingers that our offer is accepted :) In related news, I turned in our 60-day notice on our apartment this week -- we said we'd vacate by October 30. That gives us a little over two months to find a house, get our offer accepted, and move in. I can't WAIT to NOT be paying rent anymore -- what a wonderful wonderful feeling that will be. Sixty day notices stink. 30 days would be a perfect figure: you could basically just turn in your notice to vacate your apartment on the day your offer on a house is accepted. It typically takes 2-3 weeks to close -- so you would close about a week before you had to vacate your apartment -- which is perfect. Sixty days is just toooo far in advance and you never know what might happen with a house. Grrrr. I think 30 days should be plenty -- but since I'm not running the apartment complex, it's not really up to me. {positive thoughts about our offer being accepted} {positive thoughts}{positive thoughts} Random Thought: The season premiere of TRADING SPACES is this Saturday. I wonder if they will do anything different in Season Three? I know they're supposed to be adding two new designers (one of which was the sewing guy for seasons one and two). Hopefully Season Three won't contain ANY hay or moss walls. That would be a major improvement. Talked with Hillary and Jeff today -- both were enlightening conversations. I learned a little more about Hillary's graduate school plans and I found out that Jeff LOVES thunderstorms. Hillary also thinks I'm snotty (I'm still sobbing over that one. You have wounded me for life .... hehe) and Jeff is the guy to go to if you've got virus problems OR if you need better reception on your TV. The pins in his finger seem to improve the TV reception in Dallas. That's handy. Rob blogged about a steamy and interesting dream that he had -- head on over and give him your analysis of what it means :) Addie got her job back (and a pay raise) at the USPS! Congrats on joining the workforce again :) This goes out to Hillary, from her main man Rob, "I want you to want me .... I need you to need me" .....hehe {evil laugh}

I want a front-loader

// June 14th, 2002 // No Comments » // tagged: > >

The FRIDAY Five .... 1. How often do you do laundry? Around 3 or 4 times a week. 2. What's in a typical wash load? Clothes, towels; sheets every saturday 3. Front or top loader? Powder or liquid detergent? Top loader. One day I want one of those energy-saving cool front loaders. When we're rich! Liquid detergent ... whenever I've used powder it always ends up with little clumps of it all over everything. Yuck! 4. Do you use fabric softener in the rinse cycle? Nope -- but I use the DOWNY dryer sheets -- and they make everything smell WONDERFUL. 5. Dryer or clothesline? Dryer -- we're in an apartment complex. When I lived at home ... my mom always made us put sheets and towels out on the line (but I always thought there were stiff and uncomfortable). I was out shopping this afternoon for a dress. One of my friends is getting married and I need something to wear. I could probably wear one of my old dresses ... but you know how it is. I wanted a new dress. That was my agenda for the afternoon -- I found a really pretty "little black dress" on sale - and so I got it. At least I can wear it to lots of functions - not just weddings. I'm FINALLY finishing up the website for our european vacation -- it has taken ages to get all the photos formatted the way I wanted them and to just get it all organized. It will be nice though -- I'm emailing Steve's sister a copy of the site on CD (because they have a really crappy connection and it would take days for them to load all the pictures). My sister-in-law who lives 5000 miles away can look at all our pictures without leaving her home. To think that 20 years ago I would have had to mail her copies of every single photo in a huge box (well ok - 20 years ago I was only four years old ... but the point is the same!). Isn't technology great?

ESCAPEism

What a day. I feel like I am totally exhausted and I didn't do much (physically) all day. What I did do totally exhausted me though -- Steve and I bought a new car today. Well since it's actually almost 1:00 AM I suppose we bought it yesterday, whatever .... I hadn't bought a car in about 5 years -- and so I guess I had blocked out how very annoying car salesmen are. ARGH!! It makes you not want to buy a car when the sales people hassle you and hover over you constantly. We needed another car though -- Steve and I have been married for a year and a half now and we've only had one car the entire time. It was OK while we lived in D.C. because we worked REALLY close to each other, and public transport is pretty decent there. Now that we're in Nashville though it's been a real hassle only having one vehicle. So today we finally bit the bullet and went out to look -- about 8 hours later we finally signed the paperwork and came home. We test drove several versions of the Ford Escapes & Explorers, Toyota Highlanders & Ravs, and a few Mitsubishis-- but I loved the Ford Escape. It's a good price for a good vehicle -- not too big and not too small. It's dark green, which I LOVE, and it has pretty much everything we wanted (one of my requirements was two cup holders ... LOL!) Anyway -- we're now several thousands of dollars in debt and will be making a car payment for a few years. Fun and exciting stuff. We love the vehicle though -- and desperately needed a second vehicle -- so it's all good.
