Hillary is awesome. I got this in the mail today: Very cool Hillary -- I especially love the Chicago magnet. It will shine with pride in my magnet collection!!!! The cute little card was great too -- I'm sure all the things that you listed are going to happen to you while you're in the Windy City. Thanks a bunch !!! Go visit and tell her you read her blogs. Go visit and tell him what crooked fingers are good for. Go visit and tell her to send you some dirty magazines that are left over. Go visit and check out her new domain name and layouts!!!

Jeff has a crooked finger

Jeff has broken his finger in three places and has to have surgery THIS afternoon. Everybody hop on over and send him well-wishes! We're thinking of you and hope the surgery goes well !!! Nothing much new here --- we haven't heard anything back on our house offer yet --- and we're getting ANTSY. Our agent says that since we are dealing with a bank and not a person that it sometimes will take a bit longer, but it has been 48 hours. That's a LONG time to us. Time to get some work done. Thanks to everybody who has commented on the new layout :)

Is it a girl or a boy?

Hillary made me my very first fansign ever. Isn't she just the best? I'm getting all misty-eyed now. Thanks Hillary :) We spent a two-hour lunch with our real estate agent today --- talking about little details and then finally getting down to spelling out the offer on the house. What a huge amout of paperwork JUST to put in an offer -- as well as the hefty escrow money that you have to deposit JUST to show that you are SERIOUS. It will all be worth it if they accept the offer and we can get the wheels set in motion. This offer sets a future closing date of September 20 (the day before my birthday!)-- which means in 30 days we could be the proud owners of our very first house. WOW. The house we are putting the offer in on is a bank foreclosure house -- (which means the people who lived in it before couldn't make the house payments, so the bank foreclosed on them, they had to move out, and now the bank owns the house -- so the electricity and water have been turned off). Evidently these homes are a little more complicated to buy because we have to have the water and electricity turned ON in order for the home inspector to do his inspection -- and then if AFTER the home inspection, IF we decide we don't want the house -- we've lost the $$ it cost to have the utilities turned on. However-- there's no way I'd buy a house WITHOUT the home inspection, so it's a catch-22 necessity. Anyway -- banks take longer to respond to offers than normal people too -- but we're hoping to either have an acceptance or a counter offer by Wednesday morning -- and then all the inspections and stuff starts. Whew. It's a good thing I do work from home -- I can get house/bank stuff done and if I have to work at night, thats ok. I can't imagine people that have to do all this and still go into an actual office. My brother (Mark) and sister-in-law (Glenda) are supposed to find out what the sex of their baby is on Thursday. He called me last night to ask me a lot of techincal questions about the house (he's an architect) and he was telling me about finding out the sex of the baby. I think they want to start painting and decorating the nursery --- he's building the crib, which I think is sweet. It's so strange for me to think of my brother being a daddy. I guess I will get used to it -- but probably not til I see him WITH the baby. Thanks again to Hillary for making me smile and feel good today :)

I smell Heavenly

We're out to dinner with a group of our friends tonight -- we haven't seen any of them in over 2 months, so it will be great to get caught up with each other and just enjoy an evening out together. Steve and I are stressing over the whole house-buying situation too -- so a night of relaxation with friends is just what the doctor ordered. The bank has pre-approved a loan for a house ... so now we just have to FIND a house. We've found several that we like -- so our real estate agent is setting up a few showings for us on Wednesday. We'll FINALLY get to see the insides of several of the houses we've been driving by. I'm looking forward to it -- and now that the loan has been preapproved -- some of the anxiety is lifted (but not all!). I have a feeling Steve and I are going to be super busy in the coming weeks -- because we want to find a house within 30 days and hopefully move end of September or first of October. That's a LOT to get accomplished -- sometimes it can take up to 60 days to close on a house. Yuck!!! The loan officer told me today that barring any problems with sellers, we should have no problem closing in 30 days --- so we're keeping our fingers crossed. :mondaymission:Time for the Monday Mission ..... 1. If I could guarantee that the Fashion Police would not lay the smackdown on you, which favorite out-of-style article of clothing do you wish you could wear right now? hmmmmm ..... I'm not really big on always having to wear what's IN STYLE. I think style is a relative thing anyway -- what some of those people wear on runways is absolutely ridiculous and most people wouldn't be caught dead wearing it. 2. In your opinion, who is famous but shouldn't be? Monica Lewinsky, Darva Conger, Anna Nicole Smith, etc. 3. Are there any new movies or TV shows that you are forward to this fall? Movies -- LOTR II, Harry Potter II; TV Shows -- Firefly (simply because its a Joss Whedon series) 4. If you had a time machine that you could use only one time (there and back), where would you go and what would you do? Hmmmmm ..... wow. So many options -- some selfish and money motivated, and some selfless and changing history motivated. I'm going to list two. The selfish one would be to go back before microsoft got really big, and invest heavily in their stocks. The selfless one would be to go back and eliminate Hitler before he could commit mass genocide. 5. What cologne of perfume do you like to wear? Which brand do you prefer that your partner wear? Eternity, by Calvin Klein; I also love Heavenly, by Victoria's Secret; My husband wears Chemistry, by Clinique and it smells sexy on him; 6. Do you recall your first "French kiss?" Tell me about how that felt, and how it came about. Do you like them? Hmmm ---- my first french kiss was with my first boyfriend. Neither of us had ever done it before -- It was sloppy, gross, and awkward. French kisses are ok -- but only if you are with a guy who actually knows HOW and isn't just shoving his tongue down your throat, or worse, all around your mouth. Ewwww. 7. Excluding your partner...If you had the opportunity, who would you most like to French kiss? I'm not sure ... I'm not much for kissing complete strangers. Besides, the percentage of people who CAN french kiss, to the people who CAN'T french kiss is just way to low. Even famous good-looking people can be really crappy kissers -- I'll stick with my husband!

There ARE nice people

There are some really nice people out there. Three of them are Rob and Jeff and Addie. Rob talked with me about Tiny last night and made me feel better and Jeff just makes me laugh talking about our research with test subjects. Addie is going to send me a postcard from New York -- which is totally awesome. I LOVE postcards. When Steve and I were in Europe, we sent about 100 postcards to various friends and family members (and to ourselves -- so we'd have the postmarks from all the countries!). Maybe I can convince Addie to buy me a teeny NY magnet too? I collect magnets. (Note to self - email her and ask really nicely.) Thanks for brightening my day! In other news .... we've FINALLY decided to go talk to the bank about getting a home loan. Big step. We've been talking it over all week and today at lunch we decided to just go for it. We're still looking at this house but we're keeping our options open and going to look around at a few others as well. Several of Steve's friends have said that it can take up to 60 days to close anyway -- so even if we found a house TODAY and bought it -- we probably couldn't move in til end of September/first of October. Exciting stuff though -- hopefully the bank won't throw a wrench in all our plans :)
