Can't sum up the enthusiasm to blog ... but memes? That's easy! I've seen this one all over the place ...

Four places I’ve lived:
Cleveland, TN
Herndon, VA
Kingston Springs, TN
Nashville, TN

Four jobs I’ve had:
K-Mart Cashier (worked there for 1 month ... went as a walmart employee for halloween "how may I hurt you?")
Coldwell Banker broker's assistant (worked there all through college; learned a lot there that I have used later in life)
Hospital Lab Assistant (I'll take that sperm-count test specimen, thank you; I have to draw how many CBC's before lunch???)
Surgical Tech (scalpel ... happiest I've ever been in a job ... but always exhausted)

Four movies I can watch over and over (its hard to pick four ... ):
Pride & Prejudice(the REAL one ... with Colin and Jennifer.)
Gone with the Wind
The American President
The Fifth Element
hard to choose four ...

Four contemporary authors that I read everything they publish
Diana Gabaldon
Patricia Cornwell
J.D. Robb
J.K. Rowling
and so many more ... I have lots of favorite authors

Four current TV shows I love:
Veronica Mars
LOST
Grey's Anatomy
Gilmore Girls

England - all over
Paris, France
Grand Canyon
Edinborough, Scotland

Four of my favorite dishes:
Strawberry-Pretzel Salad
Pineapple Casserole
Fajitas
Cranberry Frozen Salad

Four sites I visit daily:
Television Without Pity
Dooce
The Onion
NewEgg

Four places I would rather be right now:
Jardin du Tuileries, Paris, in the springtime
Anywhere with Steve
With my niece, Sarah, anywhere
The B&B in Bath, England where our suite was bigger than the first floor of our house now ...

Four bloggers I am tagging:
Pam
Katherine
Jeff
Geeky

Recently, several of my daily reads switched to LiveJournal. A move I have to admit has lessened how often I read them.

I don't like LiveJournal - I've complained before that I hate only being allowed to leave anonymous comments (which is one of the reasons I guess I subconsciously don't visit those sites as frequently). It also bugs me that it seems that all the LiveJournals look the same ... they might have a different color scheme, and maybe even a graphic up at the top ... but they're so generic. No personality. Just ... blah. Granted, some people try to "make it their own" ... but for people like Addie and Christie who used to have such cool blog site designs -- that told you a bit about them and what they enjoyed -- to go from that to boxes everywhere is just ... grrrrrrr.

C2 Taste Test

| | Comments (4) | TrackBacks (0)

Coca-Cola has released their new "Half the Carbs, Half the Cals, All the Great Taste" C2. We picked up a six pack yesterday to try it out. We poured a glass of Coke, a glass of Diet Coke, and a glass of C2. Their slogan should be "Half the Carbs, Half the Cals, Have to Pour It Down the Drain". It basically tasted like coke that had been left open for a week - no fizz or 'bite'. I drink Diet Coke anyway - so it wasn't a great loss for me; but Steve, who doesn't like Diet Coke at all, said he'd rather drink that than the C2. I think I'll donate the rest of the six-pack to the office and see what they think.

Being snooty in Martha's Vineyard

| | Comments (8)

Another Monday. Wouldn't it be cool if the week started on Tuesday? Ended on Thursday? At least this week is a short week for me. On Friday, we're flying up to Boston for a wedding. (I have been friends with the bride since 7th grade -- and she's been dating this guy for almost 7 years now. It is way past time for this wedding to take place!!) I'm adding another bridesmaid dress to my ever-growing collection. This one is maroon satin with a kind of weird back -- it's got little buttons down the back, but parts of the back are open (as in you can see my back). Hopefully we won't freeze to death. The wedding is outside. In Boston. In October. :uhh: At least its not December! After the wedding on Saturday, we're driving down and spending two days in Martha's Vineyard/Hyannis/Nantucket. I can't wait. We soooo need a nice break -- and I've always wanted to see what the big deal is about Martha's Vineyard. And it's kinda funny when people ask where we're going this weekend ... and I try to say nonchalantly -- "oh we're spending a few days in Martha's Vineyard".

We spent this past weekend down at my parents-- and were able to visit with both sets of grandparents and my precious neice as well. It's always a busy weekend when we go down -- because there are just too many people to see and not enough time. Everyone goes through this when they move away from home though.

I'm going to a college reunion in November -- it's not for my graduating year, but for my sorority. They've started doing yearly "reunions" -- which is actually kind of nice. The current roster plans everything and all we have to do is show up. It's great to get to see everyone and catch up -- so I've made the effort to go to it for the past two years. We all live all over the world and keep up via email ... but I probably wouldn't see most of these people if not for the reunions. So it's a nice thing.

Alias. I do NOT like Vaughn's wife. Although, as I've stated before, even if she was Princess-Nice-n-Sweet I wouldn't like her because she's got Sydneys man. And I'm wondering if they are going to have Weiss and Syd in a relationship? Or is he going to be her new Will. Good friends and thats it. And lastly, let me reiterate that Sark is hot!

Bloody hackers

| | Comments (2)

Steve's football (soccer) website was hacked yesterday. They put up a picture of some guy in a turban holding up a passport from Iraq or something and a bunch of words in arabic and then in English - Down, Down USA. They'd changed his passwords and deleted all his email accounts. Not very bright hackers since the website is for an English soccer team -- and I can probably count on one hand the number of Americans that would view that website. Oh well -- since I manage all our domains through a reseller account it was fairly simple and quick to go in and change the password and delete the crap files. Now we're trying to sort out how it happened, what directories were vulnerable, etc. He's thinking it was one of his poll scripts -- with the file permissions at 777 or something -- so we're locking down everything for the time being.

I am excited about the new season of TV -- it seems like we've been in rerun purgatory for months now! I can't wait for the ALIAS premiere on Sept 28. Now that Buffy is off the air ... it's my favorite show. Followed closely by Gilmore Girls, The West Wing, CSI, ER, Friends, and Angel used to be -- but we'll have to see what they do this season. I've watched Nip/Tuck -- and it could be a good show if it wasn't so obviously going for the shock factor. It's a good thing we have TIVO -- we just get season passes for everything. It's great to FF through commercials, boring scenes, etc. I love tivo :heartbeat:.

To avoid getting blasted from Jeff, Addie, and Rob for not saying anything (like last year) -- my birthday is only 2 days away! :present: On Sunday, September 21-- I'm going to be 26! (and all I can think is that 30 is just around the corner!!! It seems like just yesterday I was turning 21 -- am I in some sort of time vortex that is making the years go by at light speed?) Steve gave me 26 roses yesterday and they are gorgeous in a crystal vase at the house ... he's really good about flowers and gifts and cards and things (and he always finds the BEST cards ... he doesn't just yank one out of the card rack so he can have one to give me -- he actually looks for one that says something he wants to say.)

Check out Addie and her new no-fuss/just-blog layout ...

It must be an epidemic ... Promo is also streamlining his site ...

Have you seen the pictures from Gina's new pool? It's really awesome.

armegedon outta here

For the first time in several weeks, Steve and I actually went out to the movies. For $16 we saw Bruce Almighty .... and were easily entertained for just under two hours. I enjoy Jim Carrey in films like this (I wasn't a big fan of the Ace Ventura movies though) .... and am becoming more of a Jennifer Aniston fan each time I see her in a movie. (Everybody seen The Good Girl ? It's a role you'd never picture JA in.) And Morgan Freeman always gets the best roles .... hasn't he played God in some other movie as well? I can't remember.

I recently implemented Sasha's phpFanbase code on all of my fanlistings ... and what a HUGE help that is. I used to have about 40 new members to add to various fanlistings every day -- and it was always such a pain  to have to open up the file and type in their info from the email, and then upload the page, update the home page with the "date last updated", etc etc etc. What a headache. It took me a few hours to transfer all my data into SQL and do the installation for each fanlisting .... but now maintaining my fanlistings is a totally headache-free task. I created a page that lists all my fanlistings, how many current members I have and if I have any pending applications. So all I have to do is visit that page and I know if I need to add anyone, and it's a one or two click process. FANTASTIC. God Bless Sasha!!!!

I guess that has been my goal over the past few months. To automate as much as possible for all my websites. Hence the move to movable type for my blog and the migrating of my fanlistings from manual updates to the fantastic phpFanbase. Why do more work than you have to!!

Anybody have any insight into how to share calendars and folders in Outlook on a network NOT running Exchange? --Microsofts free/busy service doesn't do what we're looking for -- (In case I haven't mentioned it ... I've basically become the network administrator for my office. Well actually there's no basically to it. I'm the only person around here who knows an ethernet cable from a snickers bar, so I've gotten stuck with a lot of responsibility. It's a huge headache ... but I am learning SO MUCH :book:, and that is always good for me. I love learning new things .... and boy I've had a crash course in networking and servers over the past couple of months! :pc: I am now the proud owner of all of my very own tech-support stupid questions archive. I'll have to post those sometime.)

Does anyone else use the term brainfart? You know what I'm talking about. You're doing something you've done or said hundreds of times, but for some reason - you can't do it right at that moment in time. You stick the envelopes in the postal machine to have them sealed and stamped - but oops, they don't have the letters in them yet. Or you know how to get to McDonalds, and yet you cannot seem to make the steering wheel go the right direction, it takes you 8 turns to get there instead of the one turn it should have taken since it's only 3 blocks from your office. Or you know what size blinds to get, but for some reason you buy 3 sets that are 6 inches too narrow. Even though you measured 4 times and actually looked at the correct ones at the store.

That, my friends, is a brainfart. Evidently my brain is pretty gaseous lately. I have a flatulent brain. I might as well just face it. It's probably just leftover effects from jetlag ... who knows. But I might as well just stay in bed because my brain doesn't want to do anything more useful than sleep.

What Is... 1. Yummier: Chocolate ice cream or strawberry cheesecake?
2. Better to watch on TV: Movies or sports?
3. A better web browser: MSIE or Netscape (or tell us your own favorite!)
4. A better way to travel: Automobile or bus/train?
5. Your preferred camera: Digital or film?
6. A Cooler Vehicle: Motorcycle or sports car?
7. More fun: Video games or board games?
8. Sexier: A perfect body or an intelligent mind?
9. A stinkier smell: Skunk or gasoline (petrol)?
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: What is more important to you: making a ton of money and being at the top of your field, or finding your soulmate and living a comfortable but not wealthy life? How many times must we be told .... money doesn't buy happiness. Just look at all the dysfunctional celebrities and business-world tycoons.

Even though my brain must not be working, I'll try to say a little about our trip to England. Overall, it was a really great trip. We had no big problems traveling, all our planes were on time and our luggage arrived safely (unlike last year .... we didn't get our luggage last year for 2 days! Ugh!). The whole reason we were going over was for the wedding of one of Steve's best friends - Dave. We arrived at Heathrow on Thursday around lunchtime, picked up a rental car and drove down to Steve's sisters (where we were going to be staying for the week). Our neice, Charlotte, had asksed if we could pick her up for school -- so we headed over to Rothwell Junior School and picked up our extremely TALL 10-year old niece. She's just 3 inches shorter than I am .... I think she's going to definitely outgrow both of her parents. It's amazing how quickly kids can grow in just one year. Wow! The next time we see her I'm sure she won't even want to hang out with us ... she'll be too cool for her adult aunt and uncle. Oh well .... maybe she'll still think we're cool simply because we live in the US?? We'll see!!

Thursday night we went out to eat with a huge group of Steve's friends .... and keep in mind that in England, when you go out to eat - you're going out to a pub to drink for several hours and then have dinner. And they don't have non-smoking sections. (In case I haven't mentioned it before ... I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. It makes me physically ill ... I start coughing and my eyes get watery, which causes my contacts to be itchy, and I just generally feel ill.) So - Steve and I are both exhausted and both hacking away practically the whole night from being in a smoke-filled room. When we finally are able to stumble to bed that night, I have never been so thankful for a sofabed in my entire life. It felt like heaven. We slept like rocks that night -- barely moving til the next morning. The wedding was on Friday at 1:00, but we were supposed to meet everyone at 10:30 for all the pre-wedding stuff, getting our flowers on and, of course, having a drink together (drinking is an integral part of English society ... it is wild how much people can drink over there and still have a coherent conversation. Whew!!).

The wedding was held in a little tiny village in England, Tichmarsh, in a church that was built in 1194. We walked from the house where we all got ready to the wedding ... school children were out in the school yards waving at us as we walked to the church. It was almost like a little parade in this tiny village - all of us in our dressy clothes and flowers. The church was a beautiful stone cathedral with the huge tall ceilings and intricate stonework -- really beautiful and once again reminds me of the tremendous history that england (and the rest of europe) has. Nice wedding ceremony .... but it was different from weddings here (or at least from my wedding). They sang hymns, and the minister and congregation recited prayers at the end. It was all very interesting to me though - and they sang a hymn that we had played (instrumentally) at our wedding -- Jerusalem. We had that song while Steve's family came into the sanctuary for our wedding ... in honor of them being from England. (Sometime I'll have to blog about our wedding ... we did a lot of things in our ceremony that they do in England ... like signing our wedding license during the ceremony! We both wanted to include English traditions as well as American traditions in our wedding.)

After the wedding, we went to a little pub in the Stilton village (as in Stilton cheese, have you ever heard of it? me neither.) for the wedding meal. It was a 4 or 5 course meal that was delicious, complete with wine and champagne for the really touching toasts. The meal lasted almost 4 hours, and then we had a short break to go change clothes for the evening buffet and dancing party. Steve and I went back to his sisters for about an hour, changed clothes and then headed back for the party at around 7:00 that night. The buffet was yummy with all sorts of cheeses and breads and meats -- mmm -- and lasted til after midnight. They make weddings a DAY-long affair .... whew! Another exhausting, and yet fun, day

Anyway - moving on. We spent the next 3 days doing this with friends and family, doing a little shopping, and just generally relaxing with everyone. It was a nice change of pace from our trip last year - during which we traveled almost the entire time. On Monday we did our only touristy thing for the year .... we drove to Windsor to tour Windsor Castle and to get a few touristy souvenirs for a few people. We didn't buy that much stuff this year .... we bought several really beautiful prints that we'll have framed for our house .... and a tiny shirt for Sarah and two mugs for my parents. Last year we bought everybody souvenirs - so this year, we felt like we didn't have to dish out a huge amount of money for little trinkets and things. It was kinda nice to just be able to look for really interesting and unique things for our home.

We flew home on Tuesday, and after 23 hours of traveling (between driving to Heathrow, flying to New York, a 3 hour layover, and then the flight to Nashville, and the drive to our house) we finally arrived back at our house, which we had only been living in for 7 days when we left for England. It was nice to be home .... I actually wanted to come home to the house -- it's so different now that we aren't in an apartment anymore. We had somewhere to come HOME to.

We both had to be back at work on Wednesday .... so needless to say we were extremely jetlagged 'til the weekend when we managed to get some rest. However, my parents and grandparents came up for the weekend -- my grandparents hadn't seen the house yet, and they were coming to help us get our yard and flower beds sorted out. It was a busy weekend, and we got a lot accomplished, and it was good to see them -- but we were also relieved when they went home because we finally were able to rest! I also got a headcold upon my return ... it's on its way out now though, I'm almost feeling normal!

We're slowly getting the house sorted out ... room by room it's coming together and we love it so much! I promise to post a few pictures here in a week or so -- as soon as we dig out the digital camera! Well, thus ends my longest blog in a long long time. I hope you guys aren't falling asleep from reading such a long entry! Ta Ta for now .....

My nails can breathe again

| | Comments (0)

Well - the nails made it almost two whole weeks. I knew they were going to start to annoy me -- and today I was picking up a box and one of the pinky nails ripped off. OUCH! That hurt!!! So this afternoon after work I went in and had them all taken off -- I've always taken them off myself before, and what a mess it made. But for $8 they take them off properly AND my nails don't look too bad. They did a mini-manicure and buffed them all out and polished them. It's nice to feel like my fingernails can "breathe" again though. They were pretty while they lasted -- but I was silly to think I'd actually want them long term.

So Addie is trying to get together a trip to England -- I hope everything works out so that she can go. It's a wonderful experience and I know she'd love it!!

We've got an appointment with our building company on Saturday morning -- we're going to iron out a few details on the floorplans and set up an appointment for one of their guys to come and assess the land we're seriously looking at. Hopefully he will look at it and tell us its feasible and won't cost a lot to do the land improvements! (fingers crossed) I can't wait for the whole thing to get started --- and to start choosing everything!

Loved the new Buffy episode this week -- James Marsters is just impressing me more and more with his acting. The last five minutes of BTVS were awesome ..... it will be interesting to see where they go with all this :)

C.S.I. is getting ready to come on -- so I'm signing off!

Anybody else out there live in a place where it CONSTANTLY rains? Grrr ... rain every once in a while is ok and sometimes even WELCOME. Rain every single day is really annoying and frustrating. Yuck.

One more gripe ... Don't you hate it when you have a friend who suddenly starts with one of those "selling schemes"? I have a friend who has started up with this new "opportunity" (read: crap) and of course they are encouraged to get other people involved ... kinda like a pyramid scheme or something. I have NO interest in doing this and have NO time to do it either. It's just annoying because now I'm dreading talking to her because I know she's going to be asking me about it again. Grrrrrrr.

Not much going on with me this week. Lots going on with everybody around me though.

-- One of my friends got engaged and she's sooooo excited - and so she should be. She and her boyfriend have been dating for almost EIGHT years! It's about time he got around to asking her!! Congrats to Wendy :)
-- My grandmother had a catscan this morning ... she was having some stomach pain. I talked with her this afternoon and its diverticulitis -- and so she's on lots of antibiotics and hopefully will be feeling better ASAP.
-- My grandfather is having surgery on Friday ... it's minor and is mainly just to check and make sure that his cancer isn't back (he had bladder cancer last year ... and has been cancer-free for about 8 months now ... and every few months they have to do surgery to go in and make sure there aren't any tumors or growths.)
-- My sister-in-law had an ultrasound this week and she said they could actually SEE the baby's arms and legs. Awwwww. My little neice/nephew is growing just fine :) Hope she got a picture and we can see it.

Googling Lacy

| | Comments (0)

Nothing much to blog about - but think the "Lacy is" google search thing will do for a bit of entertainment. (Susie started it all ... you go to google and type "[Your Name] is" -- and it brings up all sorts of information ... LOL). I'm only posting a few of my favorites ... my comments are in green .....

Lacy is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of United Parcel Service. (Not bad ... VP and CIO of UPS. I must be rich!)

Lacy is a German shepherd dog. (no i'm not ... lol)

Lacy is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.

Lacy is about as simple as you can get. (well that wasn't very nice ... LOL)

Lacy is featured on Joyce Cauthens CD production "Possum Up a Gum Stump: Home, Field and Commercial Recordings of Alabama Fiddlers". (LMAO)

Lacy is a bad ass (LOL -- this is fun!)

Lacy is Sears new CEO. (now this one I had to mention -- because Alan Lacy, the CEO of Sears, is actually my cousin. I figured this one would come up in my search ... LOL)

Lacy is wrapped around the bottom of my chair (now that sounds a little wierd ... LOL)

Lacy is happy and willing to sit on command. (LMAO -- more on the german shepherd theme I guess ... )
