We found a house!

// February 23rd, 2003 // 4 Comments » // tagged: >

Wow! It's been almost two weeks since my last blog. I think my blogging is going to be pretty irregular til mid-April. The musical I was involved in is finished -- all the performances went really well and we didn't have any major mishaps. We were having 4 rehearsals a week for about 2 months now, so I'm relieved to finally have my life back. It will be strange to be home every night this week. Wow! In the midst of the theatre madness, Steve and I also managed to look at a few homes last weekend. We were surprised to find one that we both liked -- and we put in a bid. After countering back and forth, the sellers finally accepted our offer. We had the home inspection on Friday -- and it passed with flying colors. Soooo our closing date is set for March 21st and we get possession of the house on the 23rd! One month from today we'll have a house! Wow!! It's amazing how fast things can move when it's the RIGHT place. We've put in offers on several properties -- houses and land -- and it's never worked out. This has been amazingly fast -- but we still feel really good about it.
It's everything we were looking for -- almost three acres, a big front porch, and we both love Victorian-looking homes! We've been looking for a house since August of last year -- so we're very excited that a house has finally come on the market that fits our needs and is in our price range. I guess we'll start the whole packing process sometime this week -- we have to be moved out of our apartment by April 1. So we basically have seven days between getting the keys to the house and having to turn over our keys to the apartment. I can't wait!! I'll try to blog tomorrow sometime! I'm going to watch ALIAS now :) (Oh - and be sure to check out Addie's new layout!)

Moulin Rouge

// February 12th, 2003 // 3 Comments » // tagged: > >

I realize that by admitting what I'm getting ready to admit that lots of you will think less of me. I'm prepared to deal with it. Until last night, I had never seen Moulin Rouge. Yes, you read that right. It wasn't that I didn't want to see it ... I just never really made the effort to go see it in the theaters - and then just didn't bother to rent it. However, when I signed up with netflix a few months ago, I put Moulin Rouge in the queue and just forgot about it. I figured I might as well see what the big hoopla was about the movie. Wow! I watched it last night ... and sometimes I will have a little tear or two slide down my face after watching a movie --- but last night I had a full on weepfest. What an incredible EXPERIENCE that movie is .... it's not just watching a movie! It was so totally unlike whatever I thought it would be (which I'm not really sure what I thought it would be ... but I wasn't anywhere near what it is!). I couldn't believe how much I cared for the characters that by the end of the movie, it was heartbreaking that they couldn't be together. Loved it! Tonight I'm going to watch the "Special Features" .... can't wait to see what goodies are in store for me! Woohoo! Another busy week ensued this week. We had play practice Monday night til 10:00 PM -- we have rehearsal again Thursday night -- and then an all day rehearsal on Saturday. Our tech (lights, sound, etc) rehearsal is next Monday night and then our last big huge dress rehearsal is on Tuesday night. Opening night is in 8 days. Wow! We have a sold out show for all four performances .... so it should be really cool! We're all going to be exhausted ... but it's still going to be cool ! Steve and I have been looking every day for about 2 months for our flights to England ... and today I was doing my daily search -- and ended up booking our flights about 30 minutes later. Since last week, the flights were running about $700 roundtrip -- through American or Delta. Today, I found a $499 fare roundtrip from Nashville to Heathrow with British Airways (whom we LOVE and have lots of airmiles with already .... so it will be great to add another 16,000 miles to our account between the both of us!). So we're definitely off to England April 9 for Steve's friends wedding on the 11th. It will be SO nice to get to see Steve's family ... we haven't seen them in a year, and weren't expecting to get to see them til next year. So it's a nice surprise that we're getting to go this year! Woohoo! I really want to change hosts sometime within the next month. My current host has been a good one -- I've been with them for almost four years (!) now - but they just aren't providing some services I really want (they don't even support PHP! Ugh!). Sooo .... if anyone has a good hosting company that they've been with for AT LEAST 6 months -- and haven't had any major problems, could you put a link to them in my commenter? And if anybody has heard anything good OR bad about www.vip-hosting.com .... leave it in the commenter. Steve likes what they're offering, but I need some testimonials. THIS OR THAT: 1. Bacon or sausage? Bacon! 2. Eggs: scrambled or not? Scrambled! 3. French toast or regular toast? French! 4. Pancakes or waffles? Pancakes with Strawberry syrup! 5. Mufins or bagels? Muffins! 6. Coffee or tea? Frappucino is the closest thing to coffee I'll drink! 7. Juice: orange or grapefruit? Orange! 8. Hot or cold cereal? Cold!o put in cereal: bananas or strawberries (or some other fruit)? both! 10. Eat breakfast at home or at a restaurant? Home, unless I can get pancakes a the 'Pancake Pantry' (yumm!)

Carrot, Egg or Coffee Bean

// February 11th, 2003 // 1 Comment » // tagged:

Coffee, Carrots & Eggs You will never look at a cup of coffee the same way again. A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each n a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word. In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me, what do you see?" "Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?" Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity--boiling water--but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water. "Which are you?" she asked her daughter. " When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?" Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate to another level? How do you handle adversity? ARE YOU A CARROT, AN EGG, OR A COFFEE BEAN?

Meet Me in St. Louis

// February 7th, 2003 // No Comments » // tagged:

It's been an incredibly busy week! I'm heavily involved in a production of "Meet Me In St. Louis" coming up in two weeks - and we're busily trying to gather all our props and get the backdrops and set constructed and useable. The cast and chorus are doing a great job with the music and dialogue ... so if we can get the production side finished, it's going to be an amazing time for everybody! Wow. I think I'm going to be absolutely exhausted by the time we get to our opening night, February 20! Less than two weeks away!!! So, if I'm MIA for the next 2 weeks, this musical is why! I'm such a slacker that I haven't blogged and plugged Jeff's new layout - so if you haven't already checked it out, be sure to see it! It's not only a new layout ... but its powered by Jeff-Code too! He's written his own blog, commenting & tag code! Awesome! THIS OR THAT: 1. Morning or night person? Night - I hate getting up early. I used to work second shift when I worked in surgery, and LOVED it. I could sleep late, enjoy the daytime - and then go into work (and you always got the more interesting cases at nights - emergencies, organ harvets, etc. - if you aren't a medical person you'll think thats kinda morbid ... but its the best time to learn!) 2. Heavy or light sleeper? Heavy. It takes me a while to get to sleep, but once I'm there - I sleep through anything. 3. Remember your dreams or not? It depends on the content. Sometimes I remember them vividly .... especially nightmares. 4. Do you need a lot of sleep, or just a little? I need at least 6 hours to feel functional. Anything less and I just feel really lethargic and can't do much because I keep thinking about how tired I am. 5. Do you need something like a nightlight or TV to sleep, or do you prefer complete darkness? I have a nightlight - one of the blue glowy ones. 6. Flannel sheets or some other kind? Steve and I have a few sets of really high-thread-count sheets that feel like you're sleeping on a soft wonderful cloud. It's definitely worth the extra money to get the higher thread count .... cheap sheets are going to FEEL like cheap sheets. 7. One pillow, or more? I used to sleep with two pillows before I was married - now I only sleep with one. I don't even know why. 8. Bedroom door opened or closed at night? Closed and locked, of course! I'm super paranoid about somebody breaking into my house - so I try to put as many locked doors between me and the front door as possible. I have a bad time with nightmares. Locking the door is just one way I can mentally try and avoid a nightmare. 9. Wrap yourself into blankets like a cocoon, or just cover yourself with them? Cover. I sleep with the comforter on the bed - no other blankets; it gets too hot! 10. Alarm clock: wake to music or buzzer? Neither - Steve gets up about 20 minutes before I do and always wakes me up. He's a handy (and handsome!) alarm clock. FRIDAY FIVE: 1. What did you have for breakfast this morning? If you didn't have breakfast, why not? No breakfast - wasn't really hungry. 2. What's your favorite cereal? Cracklin Oat Bran 3. How often do you eat out? Do you want that to change? Out for lunch almost every day .... and on the weekends we usually eat out. We don't go out for dinner during the week though - easier to just stay at home and cook something (mainly just so we can stay in and relax). 4. What do you plan on having for dinner tonight? Got a recipe for that? We're going to a party tonight - not sure whats on the menu. 5. What's your favorite restaurant? Why? Kan Pai of Tokyo - they cook the food in front of you and throw their knives around and make things out of the rice ... it's an entertaining restaurant and the food is EXCELLENT. We don't have one in Nashville ... so whenever I go to my hometown, I always want to go there.
