I've been waiting for the next Scarpetta novel for almost a year.
I would have waited a little bit longer if it would have meant a better book.
This isn't Patricia Cornwell's finest writing ... nowhere close. You can't quite get into the story til about 2/3 through ... and then it still doesn't gel. The ending is so fast you almost miss it. Don't blink ... or you'll miss the solving of the mystery. I literally had to turn back a page because I thought I must be missing some pages.
And they never did really explain the Henri situation. Huh? Lucy, Kay, Benton ... they all just seemed ... off.
Die-hard Scarpetta fans like me will read this -- simply because it's a Scarpetta novel ... but if you aren't a fan, or haven't read any Scarpetta books yet -- don't start with this one. (Although I never have understood people who read books out of order. When they're written in sequence. The Scarpetta books ... or the In Death series ... or Gabaldon's Outlander series. One of my favorite series of all time. I love Eve and Roarke. You have to read them in order or they don't make sense.)

I LUUUUURV the Scarpetta novels, and I was also really thrilled when Trace came out... but I agree, DEFINITELY not some of Cornwell's best work. I miss the old Scarpetta.
I too am a HUGE Corwell fan. Only when I found out about Trace did I pick up Blow Fly, as I was terribly behind in my reading. I still have not gotten to Trace but I was a little disappointed with the anti-climatic ending of Blow Fly. Sounds like I don't have much to look forward to in Trace. Oh yeah, and I am so done with the whole Chandonne story line....move on please.
