West Coast Tour 2004

Steve and I will be leaving for a two-week tour of California next week. We leave on September 21 - a day which also happens to be my 27th birthday! We'll be going to San Deigo, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Phoenix, the Grand Canyon, Oakland ... we're taking advantage of the super cheap flights that Southwest Airlines provides. Our flight to San Diego is only $99 ... and then we're doing short $20-$30 flights between all the cities over there. It's quicker than driving ... and cheaper considering gas and rental car prices!

The floor (aka Comments) is open for Sight-Seeing suggestions ... are there places in the cities we're visiting that we shouldn't miss? Good restaurants? Cool shows? Beautiful scenery? We don't want to miss anything!!!

my suggestions, as could be expected, focus on animal related attractions. there are only two things on my must-do list west of illinois. one is go to the san diego zoo and the wild animal park. mainly, the wild animal park.

the second is in kanab, utah, and i know you aren't going to want to go there, but you did pass the floor over. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is the biggest no-kill sanctuary in the country, and I believe in North America. You have to be a member to visit and take the tour, though. You can also volunteer for a day, a week, whatever you want. There's this cool cabin that I'd have to stay in if I ever get to go - there's actually a couple greyhounds that stay in the cabin with you. How cute is that?

Anyway, the first suggestion is so obvious for San Diego visits, and the second is probably so not your style. But that's what I'd do. Oh, my other must is to volunteer at a big cat sanctuary in Texas. The only weird thing is they want a picture of you with the application - what is this, MTV? But oh, big cats... that would be a dream come true. Wow, I should blog if I can comment this much.

I am supposed to go to LA this week (Thursday - Sunday) to visit my dad, and the attractions I plan to see are the Getty Museum, which is simply gorgeous ,and has probably the best view of LA. Laguna Beach is also pretty nice I hear, and ....Santa Monica Pier.

If you have time, you should try the scenic road between Sedona and Flagstaff, AZ. It is an awesome two lane switchback up the mountain with gorgeous scenery. (We honeymooned in Sedona and that was one of our favorites, besides the Grand Canyon.)

But I guarentee, that once you get to the Grand Canyon you will want to spend a few days there. It is so fabulous. Oh yeah, a mule down into the canyon. It will make the trip one you won't forget.

Oh yeah, Happy Birthday!!
