Grampy is amazing!

My grandfather's surgery went perfectly. He ended up having two surgeons - and two is always better than one! With four eyes, they can't miss anything! They got all of the cancer out - and did something called a sleeve resection (they take out any of the bronchial tubes that are cancerous - and then they reconnect the tubes.) So - they took the upper lobe of his right lung, and part of that bronchial tube. They they resectioned it back together. They took some lymph node samples and those and all the lung tissue is in pathology being tested. Both doctors think they got everything though - they said the surgery went exactly as they planned - it couldn't have gone any better! Go Grampy!! :bigthumb:

He was moved directly to ICU - and we finally got to see him last night around 8:30 PM. He was still kinda out of it - but alert enough for us to tell him that it went well.

I stayed with my grandmother last night at the hospital - they have little rooms that ICU families can use. Two twin beds, a shower, toliet - it is a nice thing to have available. You can lock the door and have some privacy and feel safer than just sleeping in a waiting room. So -- we stayed overnight -- got up this morning for the 8:30 AM visitation -- and walked in and Grampy was sitting up in the bed drinking coffee and watching TV! The nurses are just amazed that this 86 year old man is doing so well -- they said he's acting like a 50 year old!! ;) He still has the chest tubes in - and a huge incision - but he's just doing REALLY well. We never expected him to be doing this well so soon.

He'll be moved to a regular room either tomorrow or Monday - and then sometime end of next week they'll send him home. Then it's about a 6 week period til he will feel somewhat normal again.

Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and prayers - they're working! Keep it up! We've still got a long road to recovery ahead of us - but Grampy is just doing amazingly well ... God has truly watched over him through the surgery and as his recovery is starting. I only hope the next few days and weeks go as well as the last two days have!
