There's an interesting article over at PVRblog with some stats on tech in the home (tv tech anyway).
6% have an HDTV set, up 50% versus six months ago;
18% a VCR/DVD dual deck; and
5% a PC with a TV tuner.
What's your house/apartment like? Technology-wise. (Our geeky household is in the extended entry)
Steve and I are pretty geeky. We have a server, two desktops, and two laptops. Networking: wireless for the laptops - wired for the desktops. (All PCS ... we're not a Mac household. It's not that I don't like Macs - I just haven't used them, don't want to have to buy all new software for that OS, and figure it's more trouble than it's worth considering we already have 5 PCS! I'm sure if I used a Mac, I'd love it. But I still wouldn't want to pay the extra $$ for legitimate copies of all the software I use on a daily basis.)
The server we got a super deal on (we love gotapex.com) - and it's worth its weight in gold to us for learning purposes. Before I try anything out on the servers at work - I always try it at home first. Steve uses it all the time in getting ready for Microsoft exams - and as they're always upgrading their exams - it's great to be able to install on that server whatever OS we need to learn.
We also have two big rubbermaid containers full of computer parts. Hard drives, modems, graphics cards, memory - pretty much anything salvageable from old computers. It comes in handy - it's like our own little repair/replacement store!
This is the bookcase outside our office. We love computer books and magazines. Everything on those shelves is computer/tech related. Have you noticed that all the really good web design/graphics/internet magazines come from the UK (and therefore are $12+)?
We have two tivos. The one in our bedroom is our original
One of the desktop computers has a TV tuner - but we don't really use it since we're on satellite now (so I guess we're technically part of that 5%... but not really).
For cellphones - we're a Sprint family. I used to work for Sprint Government Systems in D.C. - and we got a great deal on a monthly plan - and have just kept that plan as we've changed phones. Right now I've got the
So what's your geekiness like?
[EDIT: I just typed in a big long section about our internet access situation at the house. Then I decided to just make it a separate entry. You can read it here!! ]

well its just me in my apartment. i've got my two PCs, my broken printer, and my cable internet. yes, i have cable and it's allllll for me. no Tivos. a hand-me-down tv with bad picture quality. 3 bags full of old computer parts and cables, and 1/4 of a bookshelf full of computer books.
now, if money weren't an issue, i'd have my two PCs, and a Mac laptop, all on a wireless network. and of course a tivo with an HD TV. but i haven't won the lottery yet.
PS. I noticed you show email address on your site - is it spam protected in any way?
I use the Spam-Protect via MT (MTCommentEmail spam_protect="1")

Oh but wait I am not finished....okay
Only things left. I have cable modem ,and I just bought a new digital camera.
So yes I think I qualify for the tech nerd award. My next buy is definitely a tivo. Any suggestions for a good place to buy one.
Well at my house at the moment there are four pc's connected to a network, using cable to connect. Three of the computers have windows os installed on them, mine has fedora core 2(linux) installed just need to install wine to get some window applications to work on it.
Oh, let me see now...
We have a custom built desktop that has the scanner and printer attached. It also has a CD burner and DVD burner connected to it.
We just got an eMac that we totally love. We each have a laptop and his work computer, a Dell Dimension is also here. He does work from home as well as at the office.
We each have a digital camera, mine is a Nikon Coolpix 775 and his is a Coolpix 5400. I'm thinking of upgrading my camera very soon.
We're on cable modem. The mac and the laptops are connected wireless. The two PC desktops are wired.
We have 3 TVs, 2 VCRs, a single DVD player and a 5 disc DVD player. My husband also has satellite radio in his truck and I own an iPod. Oh yeah, we also have a Playstation II.
I'm a computer programmer and he is an email administrator for a university that has campuses all over the world.
So yeah...we're pretty geeky.
