In Respect of an American President

President Reagan was the president of my childhood - he's the first President I have real memory of watching on television and knowing what The President was and what he did. If only more of our politicians today could approach governing the way he did.

When Nancy Reagan came in to the rotunda, laid her hands on Reagan's casket, spoke to him and then kissed it .... I had tears in my eyes. The depth of commitment and dedication between these two in their life together - is precious and amazing. Tom Brokaw was doing the voiceover and talking about their 52 years of marriage - and how until the very end Nancy Reagan was totally devoted to the care of her husband.

The American public has such respect for the Reagans. Brokaw said that Nancy has been astounded at the response of the American public. The Reagans had dignity - they respected each other and the office to which he was elected. How many people can say that of our contemporary leaders? It's always true that if you respect the people you serve ... they will almost always give you back that same respect.

We have truly lost a great American leader - May God bless his family and friends as they mourn the loss of a great man.
