There are scores of Pride & Prejudice continuations out there ... but most of them are poorly written and don't maintain the characters personalities as they were originally and wonderfully written by Jane Austen. Berdoll's Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife is an exception - she's obviously a P&P junkie (like so many of us are!). This book is a witty and intelligent continuation of the love story between our beloved Darcy and Elizabeth. We get to enjoy their wedding night (there were quite a few more sex-scenes than I originally thought - be prepared!), and their adjustment to married life at Pemberly and in London. We also get to see all of the other P&P characters -- Bingley and Jane (Berdoll's portayal of their marriage is pretty much in line with what I thought), the annoying and ridiculous Mrs. Bennett, Lady Catherine, the insipid Mr. Collins, and of course Lydia and the deceptive Wickham.
While not as satisfying as the original Pride & Prejudice ... it was a fun read and I enjoyed Berdoll's vision of the Darcy's future :)
I'm picking this up today - I need a Darcy fix. I still can't believe my mom's last name is Darcy now, and mine might be too. I try not to think about it in psycho-stalker-terms - more towards the "it sounds better" vein, thanks. But anyway, I'm also going to get "Vanity and Vexation", which I've read good and bad things about - have you read that one?
I just finished this book last night after not putting it down for 2 days. I was very skeptical at first-how can anyone write a sequel but Jane Austen herself? But was quickly sucked in!! If you continue reading after the first shocking details of Mr Darcy's past, you will be very glad you did. The twists and turns in everyones life are exactly as I would have written. A wonderful sequel! Thank you Linda!
OMG...I could not believe it. It was well written and worth the read. And wonderfully romantic read in such a non-romantic time we live in. :cloud9:
:heartbeat::heartbeat::heartbeat::hug::hug::wow::wow: I luved the book it was very well written althoguh nothing beats the original p&p.
This book is a "Must read" for every P&P fan in the world!!!
Made me horney and daydreaming one day and sad and heartbroken the next.
Linda Berdoll stays true to the characters and language.
This is by far the best sequal. And I would enjoy seeing Colin Firth/Jennifer Ehle or Kiera Knightly/Matthew MacFayden acting it out on film..One could only hope!
picking it up today. i guess i will give it a chance. it sounds thrilling!
I am a P&P junkie!!! Romeo and Juliet could never live up the the love story of Elizabeth and Darcy. I saw this book in the bookstore and had to buy it. I am now half way through it and find really hard to put down. Oh so good!!!:cloud9:
