Tivo and Pop Culture References

I was talking with a fellow Tivo-owner this morning about the newest breed of people that we are a part of. We're totally up on all the latest news and tv shows. We never miss an episode of our favorite shows ... thanks to Season Passes. We tivo stuff we think we might like ... since it only takes a few minutes to quickly scan a program, we tivo lots of shows that we wouldn't ordinarily watch. And most Tivo owners are also fairly technologically inclined, and therefore we're up on the latest innovations in computers and electronics.

But ask us about that hilarious commercial you saw last night during Friends? Or how about that new movie that's coming out that you saw a preview of last week while watching C.S.I.?

Nope - we don't have a clue. We haven't watched a commercial in almost two years ... well - we watched a few at the Superbowl, but thats only because those are always good commercials. But other than those, we have no clue what you are talking about. Pop-culture references made to commercials are lost on us. We don't see movie previews unless we purposefully tivo the Coming Attractions show on E!

And we aren't complaining ... because not knowing the latest commercial funny or overhyped movie preview is a small price to pay for watching Friends in 18 minutes ... ER in 40 minutes ... never having to run home after an unexpected late night at work and hope you get there in time to record the season finale of Alias! I guess I'm just mentioning it here ... because I just really thought about it this morning while talking to a coworker. We talk all the time about different shows we've watched -- give each other suggestions for shows we might want to try. But neither of us "gets it" when someone is laughing and telling us about the latest commercial ... and this phenomenom is going to only increase. With cable companies developing their own digital recording services, and tivo's being so cheap to acquire for satellite users .... more and more people are going to become like us. We control the tv ... and we like it that way :)

Speaking of new shows ... we're trying out Wonderfalls on Fox. It's quirky, some bits are very Ally McBeal-esque .... there's a new episode on tonight too. We'll tivo it, watch it in 40 minutes, and then decide whether it's earned a season pass or not .....

Ahhhhh Tivo, how i wish NZ was a wee bit bigger so it would actually be economic for someone to bring it down here. I'm so jealous

I wonder what happened to Jeff's comment? He had one ... and now its gone. Bizarre! :worried:

Maybe the little baby over on the left in the pink hat ate my comment. It was a tasty comment, and she looks pretty guilty.

Yep ... she probably did gobble it up. You should see her when my brother puts some cheerios down in front of her. You'd think they never fed the child .....

So NZ doesn't have any digital recording services for TV available yet? Awww .... I'm sure it'll make it there eventually. Maybe by the time Lord of the Rings is released on HBO or something ... people will want to be able to tivo it!
