Just another manic Monday ...oh-woe ... I wish it was Sunday ... oh-woe!
Four days and counting until we close on our house. Friday at 8:00 AM we'll spend more money than we have ever spent before in our lives. How exciting is that? Really exciting if you're us. We're so hyped up about finally having a house that we can paint and tile and landscape and do whatever we want to with. I'll post some pictures after we get settled in and the place looks halfway clean :) We're leaving for England 8 days after we move in -- which means we won't be unpacked before we leave. It's all good though -- it will be GREAT to see Steve's family again, and to be able to go to one of Steve's friends wedding (which is the reason we're going over in the first place). When we get back, we'll just plow headfirst into the unpacking at the house!! Woohoo!
A few brief words about our world situation. (Please just skip this section if you'll feel the need to rant and act immature if you disagree with my opinions.) While I'm not gung-ho for going to war ... I also don't think waiting around for Iraq to comply with policy is a good idea. We've already waited around for over 10 YEARS . The UN made these decisions about weapons of mass destruction a long time ago -- and Iraq STILL hasn't complied with the rules. Sadly, the UN has lost it's teeth and won't stand up for (or stand behind) the decisions it made. When you try to satisfy everyone .... you satisfy no one. I don't think they've learned that lesson yet. How can they possibly be a governing body when they don't do anything to back up their rules and restrictions? That said ..... It looks like we'll be going to war tonight or tomorrow -- which, in my opinion, means we should all stop our complaining and bickering over whether we should or shouldn't go to war. Now that we're almost certainly doing it -- we need to put all that aside and show our full support for our troops. They didn't choose to go to war - but they are the ones that are going to be fighting and dying in it. I hope we don't have another Vietnam embarassment of the American people treating the Vietnam vets with such disrespect and disgrace -- how sad is a country that blamed their military troops for decisions our government made? We can still have differing opinions about the war ... but we should be unanimous in our support for the U.S. Military.
What's up with no comments anymore too? I used to get comments. Now I just get lots of people I don't know commenting on my tagboard ... which I think has something to do with the quilting bee (?). I know I've not been the most regular of bloggers lately ... and my blogs might not be super interesting, but. dang blastit, comment! (please? )

there's no evidence of Saddam having weapons of mass destruction.... NONE, the lies being spouted by Bush and the others are just that lies. The spy plane with the "wider" wings is just that, the empty cannisters that Bush trumpeted as containing chemical weapons date back to a batch of weapons the USA supplied Iraq in the 80s. What makes me mad about this "war" is the way everyone is being lied to and manipulated. They should come out and say they want the oil. if it was solely about weapons of mass destruction then go after North Korea who DO have the bomb.
Didn't mean to rant
YES!!! I got a comment :) Wooohoooooo!!!!
I don't agree with your opinions, but unlike some on the Bush administration, I'll respect your right to have them. Good luck with the war, but I think things might get a little tougher than some Republicans would like to think.
I definitely don't like war, but if that's the only way we're gonna get peace (which it looks like it is) then we need to support our troops. Think about it.... if we had just stood by and not fought Hitler in WWII because we didn't want war, where would we be today?
While I agree with lots of your other points, Rob, this war has zero to do with oil. That's a completely untrue misconception.
Up until yesterday, I still thought there was a diplomatic solution to this entire mess. But stubbornness on the part of Bush and the Bush opponents (both to blame) has pushed us to the point we're at now. As much as I don't like it, war is what we've chosen. Now I can only hope it's quick, decisive, and ultimately successful.
the war has EVERYTHING to do with oil. Iraq is one of the most oil rich nations in the world, why do you think Bush included the "don't burn the oil fields" part in his speech yesterday. It's no coincidence as well that many members of Dubya's regime are from the oil companies. The main reason North Korea is being appeased is it DOESN'T have any oil reserves. hell i'm mroe frightened of NK than anyone else out there.
I agree though, now war is inevitable it needs to be quick so as few civilians get slaughtered as possible.
I too thought that the "don't burn the oil fields" statement was ridiculous .... and a bit telling. While I don't believe the reason behind the pending war is oil .... it's in the mix. I don't think we would go to war over something like that though - Britain certainly isn't supporting us for that reason, I mean hell they're already paying over $5 a gallon for oil, and have been for a long time. I think they were hoping Saddam would strike first (during the 48 hour ultimatum period) and then they would be 'validated' when they retaliated. Anyway - now that war is pretty much a certainty, I think we all agree that we hope it's quick, with as few casualties as possible.
Sure we're going to take precautions to secure the oilfields. We're not going to completely ignore them, as they're an important part of the global economy, and critical to the Iraqi people's survival after Saddam is removed from power. This war is because of Saddam's (apparent) support of terrorist organizations and his growing technology in the field of nuclear / chemical / and biological weapons. It's not about some self-serving campaign interests of Bush and his oil company lobbyists. That's preposterous.
I have no doubt that this presidency will deal with North Korea after the mess with Iraq is solved. Hopefully they can do it with more tact, and with the support of the international community, instead of going it alone like a bunch of cowboys.
I don't feel like I am informed enough to get in any real political discussion. I have been following the news and listening to what has to be said but I just feel like I am missing something.
So, I will refrain from commenting there but congrats on the house closing, that has to be exciting, I wish you nothing but the best there.
Thanks Susie!! We've only got two days to go now -- woohoo!
What country in the middle east doesn't support terrorist groups or have bases? What country doesn't have weapons of mass destruction? Do you see the Americans stopping the massacres in Zimbabwe or any of the other african nations? This whole war stinks...
BTW are the after effects of the depleted uranium weapons the "allies" are going to use being reported over there? They sound horrifying...
yes rob, they're being reported. and jeff and lacy? totally with you on this. i do think oil is a verrrry small part of this, but not 100% like you seem to believe, rob. that's just a refusal to look at all sides. the un has been making empty threats for years and years now. i totally agree with lacy on that - they just can't keep up with their end of the bargain anymore.
oh, oh! i forgot! congrats on the closing! you're lucky you get to move right in - we had to wait two months!! that was the longest two months ever.
oh wow --- I can't imagine having to wait any longer!! We're going crazy just waiting the month between offering the contract and closing!
But the weapon inspectors have been reporting that Saddam IS disarming and cooperating. I repeat IS...or was. They should have been allowed to finish their inspections. I've said this before, if the UN decreed that military action was needed then i'd support that - not this heavy handed action by the US that shafts the rest of the world.
