Dodge Ball & Marching Band

:fridayfive: Time for the Friday Five .... (I haven't done one in ages!!!)

1. What was/is your favorite subject in school? Why?
Biology/Chemistry and Band. I'll always be a science nerd - I loved dissecting things, learning about the human body, and doing cool chemistry experiments. AND I'll always be a music lover -- I play the flute and piano. For band it was the flute during concert season and the piccolo during marching season. Wow SOOOOO many memories there!

2. Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
Mr. Reno. I had him for 11th and 12th Grade A.P. English. He has an odd personality and you just can't help but like him. He ALWAYS pushed us to do our best ... and those two years of his teaching helped me get through college. He taught me how to write essays and he taught me how to B.S. Those are two VERY useful skills in college.

3. What is your favorite memory of school?
Wow. I have lots of memories - but I'm going to try and break it down into four sections:
In elementary school it would be when my best friend and I built a volcano for a science project -- complete with the orange lava coming out the top. We built it in my garage and we tested it like 40 times before finally taking it to school. It was awesome.
In junior high, it would be during my 9th grade year when I wrote the weekly column about my school for the city newspaper. Gina (the other writer) and I would get to do all sorts of really cool stuff since we were the writers -- and we got out of class all the time just so we could do some "research"! What a blast!!!
In high school, wow. I cannot pinpoint one memory above them all. I had a pretty great time in high school. I was in the band -- and so there are LOTS of memories with that. So many trips and after school stuff, and just general fun and silliness. The six weeks of band camp every summer before school starts are huge memories for me. Lifelong friendships were formed during all the camps, trips, practices, etc. Most of the friends from high-school that I still keep in contact with now -- are fellow bandmates.
For College .... it HAS to be the summer I spent in Ecuador. There were 30 of us from the pre-med department. We were there with several doctors and we held clinics in different villages up in the Andes Mountains. Amazing life-changing experience for me.

4. What was your favorite recess game?
I liked Dodge Ball. I know, I know. It's vicious and encourages bullying - but it's fun!!

5. What did you hate most about school?
All through elementary school, junior high and high-school -- every year there would be a running section of P.E. I hated it. It wasn't just short distances ... it was like one or two miles. Ugh. Oh yeah -- and my fifth grade year. My teacher was evil evil evil. That was the year that my friend Laurie and I learned sign language so that we could talk during class. hehe.

This was a good Friday Five .... brings up lots of really neat memories !
